The Trumansburg Area Christmas Bureau (TACB) is a community service group, started over 70 years ago, to assist families in the Trumansburg Central School District who experience difficult times during the holiday season. Through the generosity of Trumansburg neighbors, the Christmas Bureau provides children with new clothes and toys, as well as providing their families with additional food for the holiday period. We are an all-volunteer, charitable organization. Most of all, we are neighbors helping neighbors, assisting families residing in the Trumansburg Central School District, who have children from newborns to 18 years old, attend Trumansburg Schools when age appropriate (K-12), and who are in need of support.
The matching side of our work is where community members who would like to help as a child sponsor (by providing a new outfit of clothing, hat, gloves or mittens, and 1-3 presents for each child) are paired confidentially with a family who has requested TACB support. Financial donations from community members enable us to provide food for the whole family, which helps with the added expenses of Christmas, plus a week’s worth of meals while school is out during the winter break.
In addition to serving the children and their families, we also have a Holiday Fruit & Goodie Bag Program for Seniors which remembers and supports those neighbors who can’t get out as much as they would like, or who have no family near by. Volunteers prepare a package of fresh fruit, and holiday treats, and greetings, which are hand delivered to these community members who could use some holiday cheer.
