In 2020, The Trumansburg Area Christmas Bureau celebrates its 72nd year of “neighbors helping neighbors”. Although the name has changed over the years, it’s still the same organization that Lulu and Paul Landon started in 1948.
As the newly hired school nurse, Lulu Landon began to notice that some of the students were in need of basic things, such as eye glasses, dental work, and doctor visits, and that some of these student’s families could not afford these necessities. And so the Christmas Bureau was born.
In the early 50s a few more people became involved, adding toys and clothing to the items available to the families. Lulu retired in 1963, and since then there has been steady succession of local people working to ensure that the families in need are able to give their children a happy Christmas, with toys, clothes, and food for the holidays.
Today, we are a group of thirteen dedicated community members who, with the support of local businesses and many Trumansburg neighbors, carry out the tradition of The Christmas Bureau.
It is with special thanks and gratitude that we acknowledge Scott Dawson for the continued support with our website, marketing and social media materials.
